Cointreau is a French liqueur made from sweet and bitter oranges. It is one of the most popular liqueurs in the world and is used in many cocktails, such as the Margarita and Cosmopolitan.
Cointreau was first created in 1849 by Edouard Cointreau, a French distiller. The liqueur was originally made from only bitter oranges, but later recipes included both sweet and bitter oranges.
Cointreau is clear in colour and has a strong, orange flavour. It can be drunk neat or used in cocktails.

- Margarita: Tequila, Cointreau, lime juice
- Cosmopolitan: Vodka, Cointreau, cranberry juice, lime juice
